This past week we have been away in Italy for the Salone Del Mobile in Milan.
Salone Del Mobile is a Furniture Fair consisting of over 2000 exhibitors over 200,000 Square Metres.
The 1st ever Salone Del Mobile was held on the 24th of September 1961, After the Second World War Internal demand for furniture became highly saturated for the designers in Italy.
They began to think of ways to increase their Export and become more recognised, a small group of Furniture makers founded the Federlegno Trade Organisation, following this the Italian Federation of Wood and Cork Industries Contacted 13 independant Furniture companies and created the "Italian Furniture FAir Promotion Committee"
The Committee consisted of Michele Barovero, Alessandro Besana, Franco Cassina, Piero Dal Vera, Vittorio Dassi, Angelo De Baggis, Mario Dosi, Aldo Falcioni, Angelo Marelli, Angelo Molteni, Silvano Montina, Mario Roncoroni and Vittorio Villa.
The 1st Salone Del Mobile was held at Pavillions 28 & 34 Old La Campionaria Fair on the 24th of September 1961, It was hugely successful and since that day has continued to have enduring success and global recognition setting a real benchmark for design/ furniture fairs around the world.
